The temperature drops to 4 degrees Celsius during the months of December to February. How to Reach Singtam

Singtam is well-connected to other parts of the country. The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, which is about 124 km away from Singtam (although Pakyong Airport is merely 30 km away from Gangtok, it, however, is not functional all the time because of poor weather conditions which make Bagdogra Airport a better option). The two nearest railway stations are New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (about 119.4 km away from Singtam) and Siliguri Railway Station (about 114 km away from Singtam). From the airport and railway station, a person can hire a private taxi, shared taxi, or catch a state-owned/ private bus to Singtam. The roads are pretty safe, and the connectivity with different places is also pretty good.


Things to do in Singtam

  • Bermiok Monastery

This monastery is located in Bermiok village, which is around 45 km away from Singtam. It follows the Nyingma sect of Buddhism. This place brings tranquillity. The monastery building was restored in 1954 after two earthquakes that caused severe damage to the building. The splendid view of nature around the monastery makes the visit even more memorable.   • Samdruptse Hill

Samdruptse Hill is special in every manner. It is located 31.2 km away from Singtam. This hill is believed to fulfill all your wishes. Isn’t it great?

 In fact, this hill has a 45 m tall statue of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche. The statue was completed in February 2004. It is also believed that this hill is on a dormant volcano. But the best part of this place is the view of majestic Mt. Kanchenjunga (the third-highest peak in the world) that it provides. The view looks nothing less than a dream. 

  • Temi Tea Factory

The Temi garden is located in the close vicinity to Samdruptse Hill. This garden is spread across an approximate area of 453 hectares and is famous for producing good flavorful tea. This place is a must-visit for every tea lover. Various tea points are built within close proximity, which not only serves the best tea of Sikkim but also provides a magnificent view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. You can even take a tour of the Temi tea factory and learn the process of how tea is made. Sipping a hot cup of tea along with such an amazing view is way better than the expectations.

  • Dzongu Valley

This valley has become a favorite in recent times. It gives a magnificent view of Mt Kanchenjunga. Not only this, rivers Teesta and Tolung flow through the valley. The rivers arising from the Great Himalayan have made this valley. 

This valley is also called a valley of oranges because thousands of orange trees are lined up here. Earlier tourists were not allowed in the valley. Only Lepchas were allowed, but now it has been opened for all. A number of tourists visit this place every year, yet it holds the same calmness and serenity. It is also free from pollution. It is one of the places that you definitely should visit in case; you are planning your vacations to Singtam. 

  • Namchi Rock Garden

Who does not like going to a nice picnic? Namchi rock garden is an ideal picnic location which is about 30 km away from Singtam. This place is perfect if you are looking forward to spending some peaceful time amidst the rare species of flowers. The garden remains open from 8 am to 5 pm. It is a great place for kids. They get to enjoy a lot.

  • Kitam Bird Sanctuary

This bird sanctuary is home to over 2000 species of birds including Peacocks, Yellow-vented Warbler, Chestnut-breasted Partridge, Grey-crowned Prinia, and Rufous-necked Hornbill. Apart from birds, beautiful butterflies can also be spotted here. Additionally, there is a wide variety of vegetation along with Sal and Chir pine trees all over the place, which makes this place a lush green paradise. If this excites you enough, then Kitam Bird sanctuary is the right place for you. The best time to visit this sanctuary is during the winters because all the migratory birds flew down here, which makes this place a heaven for bird lovers. It is about 38.4 km away from Singtam. It takes approximately 1 hour and 40 min to reach this place.


  • Char Dham Solophok

Situated just 47 km from Singtam, the temple complex of Char Dham is located on Solophok hill. It has a giant statue of Lord Shiva which is 26.5 m high, along with replicas of four dhams, namely Puri, Dwarka, Rameswaram, and Badrinath; and twelve jyotirlingas. This place has become quite popular among tourists as well as religious devotees. People come here to see how beautifully the complex has been made.

  • Tarey Bhir 

Tarey Bhir is a perfect destination for adventure junkies. It is a 10000 ft tall cliff. From here, you will get a mesmerizing view of River Teesta and River Rangeet. The option of white water rafting is also available in the Teesta River. The word Teesta is derived from ‘Trisrota’  which simply means consisting of three streams.

The hilltop of Tarey Bhir is covered with pine trees. The spectacular view that this place offers is beyond imagination. It is quite close to Singtam and gives a look similar to The Great Wall of China. You should not miss visiting this place. 

  • Ravangla

This place is just 50 km away from Singtam. It has an old-school charm. Situated at an elevation of 7000 ft, this place is full of dramatic scenery. There is a Buddha park which is one of the most well-maintained parks. The other famous tourist destination is Rayong Sunrise viewpoint which also serves as a base for many famous trekking trails. Ralong Monastery the holy cave of Shar Chok Bephu and Ravangla monastery are some of the other places to visit in Ravangla.

  • Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary

The trek to Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary is quite steep. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 36.43 sq. Km and situated at an altitude of 2300 m to 3263 m. One can spot different types of trees such as oak, chestnut, magnolia trees, etc. Also, different species of animals such as Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, and many varieties of deer are present in the sanctuary. 

Ranong is situated at the base of Maenam hill and it also serves as a great base for trekkers who want to trek above. A person can enjoy various long and short treks depending upon their choice. Trekking to nearby villages is also possible.

Tip: Trekkers must take relevant permission from the authorities before going for a trek. 

  • Borong


Singtam might be a quiet place, but that does not mean it is not ideal for adventure lovers. The places nearby Singtam are quite adventurous. Trek to Borong is something that you must give a try if you are visiting this part of the country. The view from Borong village is completely mind-blowing. The trek starts from Namchi, which is located close to Singtam, and crosses various checkpoints such as Tendong, Rabong, Maenam, and then finally ends at Borong. One gets a spectacular view of Mt Kanchenjunga and some other peaks Narsingh, Sinolchu, and Pandim during the trek.


  • Jorethang

This place is located on the foothills where River Rangeet flows. Situated just 35 km away from Singtam and at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, this place is famous for its Akar Suspension bridge. A famous temple Sisne Mandir is also situated close to the bridge. The best time to visit this place is during the Jorethang Maghey Mela Celebration, which occurs every year during the month of January.


  • Sikip

Sikip is situated on the banks of River Rangeet. It is easily accessible from Singtam. This place offers scenic beauty away from the hectic city life. One can also indulge in some rafting in the River Rangeet. This place is perfect for those who want to enjoy some thrilling activity. This place can be visited anytime during the year. 


  • Tendong Hill


Tendong Hill is another hiking destination. It is, in fact, a stretch of land with the lush green forest around it.
